A leader reflecting on organizational priorities

A guide for CEOs, CHROs and L&D leaders

Connecting leadership development to business priorities.

A leader can become more self-aware and still struggle to move the business forward. This guide explains how assessment, confidential coaching and daily practice can work together — and what to ask before you invest.

A practical path

Five steps from evidence to everyday leadership.

1. Start with what the business needs from its leaders

Before choosing a program, name the priorities leaders must carry over the next 12–24 months: growth, change, new roles, stronger teams. Development that is not tied to those priorities is easy to admire and hard to justify.

2. Assess at the right level

A first-time manager and an executive face different demands. Positioned4Success™ uses leadership baselines matched to the leader’s level — Manager, Director, Enterprise/VP and Executive — so the evidence reflects the role the person actually holds.

3. Turn evidence into one focus, with a professional coach

Assessment results are a starting point, not a verdict. Each leader receives up to three carefully matched ICF PCC or MCC credentialed coach recommendations and chooses the right fit. Together they choose what matters next.

4. Practice between sessions

Most development fades between conversations. Short, guided actions — designed to take about 60 seconds — keep the focus visible in daily work, with Skip always available so practice never becomes busywork.

5. Look for progress the organization can see

Sponsors need to know whether capability is getting stronger. They should see participation and privacy-safe aggregate patterns — not anyone’s private reflections or coaching conversations.

Confidentiality by design

Who should see what — and who shouldn’t.

Leaders only do honest development work when they trust it stays private. A well-designed program keeps three spaces separate.

  • Each leader: Their own results, private reflections, goals and practice.
  • Their coach: Only what the leader chooses to share, plus the shared coaching plan.
  • The organization: Participation and aggregate patterns, shown only for groups of five or more.

360° feedback follows the same principle: reviewer groups must reach a minimum size before their responses are reported. Read the coaching and 360° confidentiality policy.

Two professionals in a focused leadership conversation

Before you invest

Six questions to ask any leadership program.

  • Which business priorities will this program help our leaders deliver?
  • Is the assessment matched to each leader’s level, or is it one-size-fits-all?
  • Who are the coaches, what credentials do they hold, and how are they matched?
  • What happens between coaching sessions?
  • What will we see as a sponsor — and what stays confidential?
  • How small can a reporting group be before results are hidden?

See how we answer them: for CEOs and executive teams or for People and L&D leaders.

Develop the leader. Strengthen the system. Move the organization forward.
